Mi Chamocha / Who is Like You / מי כמוכה

Dear Kitchen-ites,

Our davening team tried something new.  We made you a prayer music video.
Because we miss harmony.
Because we miss each other.
Because we want to experience sanctuary even when we're not standing together in one.
Most of all, to give us all hizuk/strength.

Mi Chamocha / Who is Like You / מי כמוכה

This is our redemption prayer drawn from the song the Israelites sang as we crossed the Reed Sea. The rabbis imagine it as the first song sung by a choir... ever.

Did we sing these words when we reached safety-- the expanse on the other side of the sea?  Or did the song emerge from the rhythm of our marching steps as we walked, terrified, through the ‘ominous corridor’ of dry land in the midst of the sea, not knowing what is in front or behind?  Was it then that we lifted our voices and sang?

We asked Kitchen-ites to grab their cameras/phones and respond visually to prompts inspired by this question.  Their videos propel the visual narrative of the prayer.

The music and video were produced by Jacob Blumberg. You can learn more about his work here.

Thank you to the davening team and to all who contributed video.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer
