Operations & Administration Manager
Reporting To: Executive Director Spencer Weiss
The Organization
Now at fourteen years old, The Kitchen is a San Francisco Jewish landmark institution, focused on building a stellar shabbat community, with our formula of combining a generous approach to tradition and the wide variety of people we serve. Serving thousands locally (350 households, w/many non-members joining us every week), we also regularly advise communities, rabbis, and Jews in places as far away as Jerusalem, Paris, and Berlin.
The Opportunity
The Kitchen seeks a dedicated operations and administrative professional to strengthen our core functions and facilitate the execution of our programming to our growing community and partners.
Job Description
This role will support the Executive Director in executing the day-to-day operations of the organization. The position focuses on performing key administrative tasks across the full set of functions across The Kitchen, including membership, development, event execution, education, and communications. Support will also be provided to the Director of Family Education and Kitchen Clergy in an administrative capacity. A successful candidate will be able to manage multiple work streams simultaneously and will be a hands-on partner to the Executive Director. This key position will provide vital structure and efficiency to the organization and its members.
Event Operations:
Overseeing event production, managing the operations associates and providing hands-on support as needed. Events include but are not limited to:
- All shabbat services, High Holidays, Simchat Torah, Sukkot, Purim, Shavuot, Hanukkah, Selichot, Passover Seder and the weekend Kitchen Retreat at Camp NewmanProvide support from planning through execution of adult education activities and other rabbinic/ritual programming
Support Kitchen Social Club event programming
Manage procurement of event spaces, maintaining relationships with venues and vendors
Ensure billing up to date for program venues and vendors
Act as point of contact for B’nai Mitzvah Families
Provide support for Freedom School, Kitchen Playground and Freedom City session as needed
Office/Administration:
Work with the Director of Family Education to provide support for Freedom School, Kitchen Playground, Freedom City as it relates to:
- Logistical needs Enrollment, registrations, tracking tuitions
- Calendaring
- Monthly and weekly emails
- CRM/Shulcloud training and supportWork with the Marketing & Communications Director to ensure details around Kitchen programs are accurate
Ensure the communications calendar on The Kitchen website is always up to date
Support the Executive Director in all activities related to Membership Relations and Recruitment, Membership Tracking and Reporting as well as Development and Fundraising
Ownership of office equipment and technology including but not limited to:
- Shulcloud
- Google Suite
- Mixlr
- Chargify
- Zoom
- Squarespace
- DropboxEnsure security, integrity, and confidentiality of Kitchen data
Maintain, track, and assign the inventory of Kitchen hardware (i.e., laptops), software licenses as well as A/V equipment
Assist with the recruiting and hiring process
Work with ED to further develop HR policies and procedures to ensure equity and compliance
Monitor and maintain office supplies and program supplies inventory
Additional duties assigned by the Executive Director, Director of Family Education, or Founding Rabbi
Project Management:
Manage special projects and contribute to other team members’ work as needed
Work with ED to ensure organization-wide processes are in place to help with the effective planning, execution, and monitoring of projects including those related to board management, development activities, and general engagement programming.
Help manage project budgets
Anticipate potential challenges and proactively troubleshoot to ensure successful outcomes
Regularly evaluate project outcomes and document lessons learned to inform future initiatives
Maintain a clear communication flow among project stakeholders
Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications:
Basic understanding of Jewish culture and tradition
Excellent organizational skills
Strong verbal and communication skills, with an emphasis on timely communication
Strong and consistent attention to detail
Ability to create project plans, establish and meet deadlines
Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to be present at Shabbat, holidays and other events and act as a support for such events
Available nights and weekends as necessary
Handle mailing, shipping, supplies, equipment, bills, and errands as necessary
Have access to a car and a valid driver’s license
What We Offer
Salary: $75,000 - 85,000 commensurate with experience
