Purim Party Schedule
5:30-6:30 PM
Kitchen Playground
Families with kids ages 0-5
Join us for a rambunctious evening of singing, a kid-friendly Purim spiel, games, treats, and a costume parade. We’ll conclude with a festive meal around 6:15/6:30 PM. Your family is more than welcome to check out the Blakesberg exhibit and stay for the adult program starting around 7:30 PM.
6:15-7:30 PM
Freedom School & Friends
Families with kids in Kinder-7th grade
We start our evening with a festive, catered meal, along with a side of schmoozing. Around 6:45 PM, we’ll gather for an interactive, family experience with The Kitchen and CJM educators, diving into the themes of Purim: being proud of our jewishness and taking on new personas + characters through old/new Hollywood glam.
7-10:30 PM
Adult Party with Megillah Reading, Spiel & Dance Party
For all ages
Alright, picture this: it's Purim, and the spotlight's on as we gather 'round for the Megillah reading. It's like those old Hollywood epics, but with a twist of ancient intrigue. We're talking Queen Esther, the leading lady who saves her people from the clutches of the villainous Haman, advisor to the Persian king. It's a real drama, folks!
Now, when it's time for the reading, everyone's glued to their seats, soaking in every word like it's straight out of a classic script. But wait, there's more! Enter the "spiel" – think of it as a Purim production straight out of old Hollywood. It's Esther's story, alright, but with a sprinkle of Hollywood magic. You'll catch witty one-liners, modern twists, and maybe even a song and dance number or two. It's like Esther meets the glitz and glam of Tinseltown, darling.
After the spiel we’ll start our live DJ dance party and celebrate into the night! Light bites & open bar provided.
10:30 PM-Midnight
Kitchen Social Club After-Party
Exclusively for people in their 20s & 30s
Join Kitchen Social Club to continue the Purim celebration. We’ll show up in style to the 1920s-themed bar, The Harlequin, around the corner from the CJM. New to The Kitchen or not yet a member? No prob. You are welcome to come grab a drink and a bite to eat. We’ll walk over after the CJM party winds down. Email kayla@thekitchensf.org with any questions.
Costumes
We go all out for Purim and dive deep into our theme and costumes. While not totally required (debatable), you’ll be the odd person out if you come without a little something to jazz up your look for the night. Who doesn’t want to dress up for a red-carpet worthy old Hollywood theme? Check out our Pinterest board for inspiration.
A note on costumes — cultural appreciation of the times in encouraged, however cultural appropriation is definitely not. Want to learn more about what's cool these days and how to avoid wearing the kinda stuff that we just don't wear anymore? Read here.
