Selihot Concert

  • Beth Sholom 301 14th Avenue San Francisco, CA, 94118 United States (map)

There’s a custom to rise before dawn to recite these prayers which ask Heaven for compassion and help. In Sephardic traditions, Selihot is recited from the beginning of the month of Elul through Yom Kippur, 40 days, the same amount of time Moses spent on Mount Sinai.

Our new Hazzan, Asher Shasho Levy has recorded some of the most compelling Sephardic Selihot tunes so that we can keep them on heavy rotation all month and begin to learn them before we pray them together. We recommend you listen to them when you wake up in the mornings but we won’t tell if you listen at other times, too. [And, don’t you worry about Ashkenazi faves like “Aveinu Malkeinu,” because we’ll be praying that, too!]

In partnership with our friends at Beth Sholom, we’ll gather and pray on Saturday night, 9/17 for learning & Havdalah, and a live concert of our Sephardic Selihot tunes.
